The German basketball federation announced some first teams that will participate to the 2008 edition of the Albert Schweitzer Turnier. This tournament is considered as the unofficial World Championship for Juniors, which means the under 18 category.
50 years ago was held the first tournament in Mannheim, and now, half a century later, some of the best 16 junior national teams in the World will compete during one week to find out who is the best. To set the tone, here is a list of former MVP’s or players that marked the tournament: Magic Johnson (USA), Arvydas Sabonis (Lithuania), Toni Kukoc, Drazen Petrovic (Croatia), Tim Duncan (USA), Dirk Nowitzki (Germany) or Vince Carter (USA).
You see that there is every time top flight talent present in Mannheim. This year’s edition will be held from 22nd to 29th March and Ball in Europe will certainly be present to talk about the upcoming stars of the 1990 generation. You can already be sure to see the following teams: New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Italy and of course Germany. There will also be a Team USA present and probably also a team from Africa as the organizers try to have a squad present from every continent.
So be prepared to see some real top prospects in Spring 2008 and you can check the official website to get information about the last tournaments.
