IF they manage to play like last night for the rest of the season. No team will ever have a chance against that kind of shooting and defense Moscow showed last night against Roma. It wasn’t that Roma doesn’t belong into the Top16 – hey, this team beat, Barcelona, Madrid, Unicaja (Spain’s top Elite of Basketball) plus last years Euroleague winner Panathinaikos.
Cindy Garcia of the Euroleague writes:
Everything was clear by the time the final quarter started, but CSKA did not slow the pace.
I don’t know if Cindy was stunned by the performance that CSKA (plus the horrible shooting from Roma) showed in the first quarter, but who did really believe that Roma would come back after a 10-28 first quarter?
What does this victory mean for CSKA?
Ettore Messina must have loved the performance of his team – although he almost freaked out at every small mistake his team did. I am still wondering why Victor Khryapa did not play on single minute. I do understand that Messina didn’t play the oldest and the youngest guy of CSKA – he just wanted to make this special for the guys that will have to win him the Euroleague this year – TEAMPLAY!
Finally Moscow is the leader of group G with 3 wins and 1 loss – against Malaga. The upcoming opponents will be – well Malaga and Barcelona. I can’t see CSKA losing to these teams so they will stay on top of group G.
So what will be Moscow’s biggest task in the Top16? Get Matjaz Smodis back in shape …
