FC Bayern suffered a first defeat of the 2014/15 Bundesliga season as Gottingen came away from Munich with the big upset.
After hanging with Barcelona for 40 minutes in Euroleague on Friday, Bayern suffered a second defeat in three days as Gottingen knocked off the Bundesliga champions in convincing fashion on Sunday.
After a tight opening, Gottingen established a 39-44 lead at the half before stepping up a gear after the break. Bayern have shown the capacity to dig out of holes in a hurry this season but Gottingen pushed its advantage to 59-67 at the end of the third and quickly established a double digit margin in the final frame.
Bayern, looking visibly tired, didn’t have that second wind and the visitors looked in complete control through the final 10 minutes to stroll to a convincing victory. Khalid El-Amin led all scorers with 20 points along with 8 assists for the victors. With 6 players scoring in double digits, this was a balanced and impressive display from the underdogs who went 11 of 24 from deep.
The defeat drops Bayern to 4-1 in the Bundesliga, behind Alba Berlin (5-0). Gottingen’s win moves them up to 11th in the table on 2-3.
