Anthony Davis in position for NBA MVP bettors to pounce

The NBA MVP race is supposed to be a done deal but with a month of action to go there’s still oodles of value on the market for bettors looking to pounce

The narrative all season has been that this is James Harden’s MVP trophy to lose. Having put in numbers that would have taken the MVP award in any other season a year ago, the Houston Rockets superstar came into the season with a lot of love and has put up the type of stats to justify a noble charge to his maiden MVP title. As it stands Harden is a clear favourite at (-400) to win the NBA MVP title.

You see numbers like that in mid March and I see why you baulk at making a move. Let me introduce you, friends, to the Brow. Anthony Davis has already come in big since the All Star break and he’s got a month to accomplish two goals: Get the Pelicans a good playoff seed and dazzle while doing it. Without DeMarcus Cousins, the Davis as one-man team narrative is ripe for punters out there to strike. AD is going to get a lot of love down the stretch, particularly if the Pels get a good slot. Throw in the sympathy vote with the passing of the dearly beloved Tom Benson, who made sure the team stayed in New Orleans, and you have a narrative waiting to be fulfilled. Davis is (+3000) and it’s going to be hard to see him staying this good value for much longer.

Over in the East, the middling performance of the rest of the Bucks is making the case for Giannis Antetokounmpo really hard to ignore. He’s still available at 30/1 and everything good that happens for Milwaukee is a result of the Greek Freak. If you are worried about a Harden slip, putting Giannis and AD on your docket as fliers just makes sense for security.

Lastly, we can’t do a MVP breakdown without looking at the King. LeBron James has one thing going against him, his string of successes in this category. Beyond that he should be great value at 11/1 but it’s too hard to look past the chance for voters to crown a first-time MVP.
