March Madness is just around the corner and there’s only one name on the mind of everyone looking at winning big in NCAA tournament betting: Zion Williamson.
The shoe explosion heard around the world got everyone’s attention, now everyone is waiting to see exactly how and when he’s going to be ready to get back for Duke. The Blue Devils are +225 and Williamson is the biggest talking point according to MyTopSportsBooks. The short odds, even with the surefire number 1 pick in the 2019 NBA draft, will turn off a lot of bettors but think a bit deeper.
Duke is more than Williamson, and I’m not talking about Coach K or their history. This team has another top three pick in the form of RJ Barrett. Any team he is on is going to be a nightmare come the tournament. Throw in Williamson, who I can’t see missing the tournament, and this is an extraordinary force. You’ve got to get inside the head of Williamson too. He’s an incredible competitor with no desire to shut everything down. He knows the NCAA Tournament is the ultimate goal before embarking on a pro career, and he wants that prize. Even at +225, this team offers value.
The second favourites are the mid-major darlings of the past two decades. Gonzaga are +600 and have the Euro prospect everyone is talking about in March Madness but not for the right reasons. While Williamson is all but a sure thing to come back for Duke, Killian Tillie is day to day on making it to the big dance. The good news for bettors is that even with Tillie back, it’s unlikely that Gonzaga will come in all that much. They are still stacked and if Tillie makes it back for the NCAA Tournament, that +600 price will look fantastic.
Two teams worth keeping an eye on at +4000 for different reasons are LSU and Villanova. While LSU look like they could be in a world of trouble in off court matters, Nova know what it takes now to go deep in March. I don’t see the reigning champions repeating but at that price they are great value to stick with through to the Elite Eight.
