School is barely back in session but that’s ample time to check out the latest odds on the runners and riders to go all the way in March Madness
Finding value in NCAA betting, even before pre-season, is often a challenge. So, umm, I don’t really know how to say this but…it turns out 2020 is offering some seriously good options for bettors. Pop the bubbly everyone, you may not win but you definitely will get great prices.
The one that leaps off the board is the utterly stacked Louisville Cardinals line-up. For some context, Aidan Harris-Igiehon is touted as a first round prospect in next year’s NBA draft and it’s legitimately possible he may be only the sixth best player on this team. The Cardinals leap off the page in March Madness betting ass they are stacked and available at 28/1 on some markets.
The shift is heavily down to the impact of the two favourites, Michigan State and the Kentucky Wildcats. Both have been set at 8/1 on most markets which effectively forces better value down the list. Now, both of these teams have serious chances of going all the way in the spring but I can’t see either staying this short for the full season. Park bets on this pair for now, you’ll get them at 10/1 or 12/1 later, if not even longer.
Texas Tech is being treated by markets like a one-season wonder despite everything about the program screaming of one that is built to last. At 28/1 the Red Raiders, like Louisville, are hilariously undervalued. I like placing early bets on these two in order to enable some value plays later in the season.
The fairest odds on the list, as in those that probably best reflect the actual chances of going all the way, land on Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are available at 20/1 and that’s pretty fair based on their general progress through the, checks notes, decades. Until they get all the way over the line, nobody is going to to trust them to actually do it but given their likely good seeding and talent through the roster, this is a safe bet to play with early and you’ll likely to be able to lay them in the tournament.
Lastly we look at the reigning, defending, NCAA Champions. The Virginia Cavaliers have built a program to be reckoned with, coming back from the ashes of losing to a 16 seed to go all the way and win it all. The Cavaliers are not the most aesthetically pleasing but they win games. At 15/1 they seem a little short now but beware of waiting as their likely bulldozing approach through the early schedule means you’ll be relying on a two or three game wobble, a serious ask, in ACC play to get a longer price.
