Once again for your weekend edification, Ball in Europe presents the weekly column bringing you a capsule summary of, um, well, of how i killed some time this week obsessing over basketball.
Among this week’s highlights: Crying is for losers and Stephon Marbury; Europe makes a great career choice; and Allen Iverson’s best raps ever.
Of course, the biggest story in the hoops universe this week came from inside the asylum – sorry, i mean Stephon Marbury’s apartment. If you haven’t sampled this indescribable product of Generation YouTube, here’s a taste: A clip entitled “Stephon Marbury Crying (Official).”
You can bet that Starbury’s show is gonna go more viral than H1N1. Presenting parody number one of many:
Over at Hoops Hype, FC Barcelona’s Pete Mickael considers the Ricky Rubio situation, suggesting that “Europe Can Be a Great Career Choice.”
Back home, the ever-reliable and -interesting heinnews.com is running a nice interview with German U20 guard Philipp Schwethelm. According to Schwethelm, part of coach Dick Bauermann’s philosophy is “Crying is for losers.” (And Stephon Marbury, apparently.) Can’t wait to see Tom Hanks’ interpretation of this line in Hollywood’s Bauermann biopic…
In BallinEurope.com’s continuing effort to woo Allen Iverson over to The Continent, a few A.I. bits for you today: First up are these just heartbreaking off-the-cuff remarks given at a press event for the Allen Iverson Student Athletic Scholarship Program. Really great stuff, really intense.
Meanwhile, as antidote to the infamous “We talkin’ about practice” rant, scope the very dope “Press Hop” with DJ Steve Porter and The Man His Bad Self as MC:
Wanna put it on your MP3 player? No sweat! Click at top right of the video’s YouTube page to download a ZIP file with a version or two of this track. We talking about practice!
The Marco Belinelli trade causes Protect the Paint to wonder if the Toronto Raptors are an “NBA surrogate Euroleague team.” But didn’t ESPN’s J.A. Adande already hand this title to the 2007-08 Euro Lakers?
Speaking of the sportsworld’s CNN, Bill Simmons turned in a pair of breathtaking (if only in terms of length) columns on the NBA off-season. These columns are full of good stuff, but the real gem of an “LOL” moment comes with the Sports Guy’s revelation that the New York Knicks could add 79 wins to their performance of last season with the help of the ESPN Trade Machine.
The punchline? Simmons writes that “multiple” fans had found this result and reported it. Yup, those are his readers.
