Asvel Basket closed out the week with the official addition of guard T.J. “Tony’s Little Bro” Parker. After declaring himself to be entering the NBA Draft class out of Northwestern early in 2005, Parker has had something of a so-so career. He averaged eight points per game in his rookie campaign with Paris Basket Racing of the French Pro A League. Moving up to Nancy the following season, Parker went for 4.3 ppg in 2007-08 ULEB Cup play. Asvel is apparently gambling that T.J. is fully recovered from an injury that kept him out of action for essentially the whole 2008-09 season.
Asvel Basket announced the signing of combo-guard T.J. Parker, who looks to bounce back from an injury that cost him most of last season. Parker (187 cm, 25 years old) suffered a knee injury during the preseason with SLUC Nancy and was only available for five French League games at the end of the season. Parker is the brother of France national team and NBA star Tony Parker, who is a part owner of Asvel Basket. He played for Nancy in the 2007-08 ULEB Cup, averaging 4.3 points and 1.2 rebounds in a part-time starting role. Parker played a similar role as Nancy won the 2008 French League title. Previously he had played in France with Racing Paris and in the United States at Northwestern University. Parker will get a chance to prove himself early in training camp since a number of Asvel players, including guards Aymeric Jeanneau and Kristjan Kangur, will start late due to national team duty.
