This was the end result in Ranking points of tonight’s Euroleague game between Partizan Belgrade and Brose Baskets Bamberg. Of course, it was a must win for Belgrade to move to the Top 16 and it was a game without interest for the Germans. But this was really a shame. Luckily, I did not see the game.
I was out tonight and when I came home and saw that score, I was like: What is going on? Of course, Bamberg is not the best offensive team in the world. But 37 points? This might be a record I thought but the official report told me that
the all-time record for fewest points in a game 35 was set by CSKA Moscow against Krka Novo Mesto in November 2003. The winning margin of 48 points was the sixth best in competition history. That record belongs to Montepaschi Siena, which slammed Buducnost 112-49 in February 2003.
What was interesting was to check what the Bamberg fans who have actually seen the game on TV were telling in the different forums. Here are some comments I think that display the actual fan feelings at best in Bamberg.
I have never seen Dirk Bauermann so emotionless than today. No wonder…
Thanks to Bamberg, the German Club basketball is nothing more than a laughing stock. Shame on you.
The German league may not be the best. But the German champion should not present himself like THIS. A black moment of German basketball.
For the first time in my career as forum writer, I can not find any words. 109-5 (in words one hundred nine to five). Only by starting up my laptop, logging into the live stream and zooming into the full screen mode, I got more Ranking points than the whole Bamberg team united.
And what is the coach saying after such a performance?
Congratulations to Partizan. Our performance was a shame. Don’t ask me why. No explanations, no excuses. I apologize to the German audience for this horrible performance. The responsibility is on me and on the players.
I mean, what can happen to Bamberg. They were already eliminated. They have to concentrate on their national league to qualify for next year’s edition. But the question remains how bad a team can be. A player recruitment that was a total mess (Schenscher, Ffriend, elderly German stars,…) and non existing offensive scoring threat are some of the reasons for this disaster. Now Barcelona will be the last game for them at home. I hope for them they will show what they are able to do in order to leave the Euroleague in a less pathetic way.
