In case you haven’t heard, Partizan Belgrade pulled off a wicked 67-66 upset of FC Barcelona this week to end another notable winning streak while creating an instant classic. In other news, the NBA All-Star Game is bearing down full steam ahead and the hype machine appears to be set for full blast come Monday. So guess what this week’s “Best of the (Basketball) Net” is about? Read on!
First, another look at Partizan closing it out in Pionir. (Sorry, Barça fans.)
In the approach to the NBA All-Star Game, much interest is bubbling up over the H-O-R-S-E competition – OK, much hype. And so from the Big Network, a compilation of the top five trick shots ever. So far.
What’s that? You want more on the NBA All-Star Game? Perfect! Here’s The Starting Five participating in a media conference call with Reggie Miller, Kevin McHale and Doug Collins on the game.
And now for something completely different. How badass was the Pionir crowd for the 67-66 win? This video explains much, particularly the intro play wherein the Barcelona offense can be *seen* to wilt under the pressure applied by the noise, so much noise. (Sorry, Barça fans…)
Meanwhile, back at ESPN: The Kamentesky Brothers’ Land O’ Lakers blog on the True Hoops network looks back on two years of Pau Gasol, whose anniversary in purple-and-gold was February 1.
Gilbert Arenas apologizes; do you believe him?
A feature on Nenad Krstic, his upbringing in then-Yugoslavia of the 1990s, and basketball of course, runs in his Oklahoma City Thunder’s home newspaper, The Oklahoman.
It’s been a while since BiE has checked out the Draft Express mock draft that’s perpetually updated over there, so here it is. Poor Donatas Motiejunas continues to sink from his former top five status on this table, landing at no. 11, where he’d be picked up by the … Los Angeles Clippers? Nooooooo! Don’t do it to the poor dude, Christophe!
Also of note on the Draft Express chart is the presence of 19-year-old Jan Vesely, who’d be landing with Oklahoma City, a much more fortunate fate than that proclaimed for Motiejunas. Plus, the prospect of Vesely landing with Oklahoma City makes that team just one bit scarier; that team’s evolving into quite the NBA contender.
Finally, speaking of Vesely, how about one more look at Partizan-Barcelona highlights? Sorry, Barça fans, but your guys do get in some beautiful moments.
