What was that about the fat cat singing…?
Followers of Lithuanian basketball this season were no doubt immensely let down by Žalgiris Kaunas owner Vladimir Romanov’s superbrief post-game press conference after his coachless team’s defeat in game seven of the LKL championship series. Lasting approximately 12 seconds, the entire “conference” with media representatives consisted of a single sound bite. But, oh, it was a dandy. (Remember, it’s quality not quantity that counts.)
Declared Romanov in the wake of defeat:
“It’s hard for me to talk about this, because Lithuania was robbed once again. And you’re all helping them.”
Right, then.
Meanwhile, in the more serious business world of Lithuanian basketball, the website Lithuania Basketball quotes a source as stating that LKL champions Lietuvos Rytas has signed Brad Newley of Besiktas Istanbul. Talk Basket had also mentioned Newley’s interest.
Australian native Newley, a second-round draft choice by the Houston Rockets in 2007, had a killer year in the Turkish Basketball League, scoring 17.6 points plus 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game; his single-game high was 33 against Aliaga Petkim in November (video below).
