BallinEurope (and surely you, too) are anticipating Allen Iverson’s European debut with Beşiktaş Cola Turka tomorrow night against Bornova Belediye … in so doing, BiE scoured the team’s official website for some (read: any!) English-language information on A.I. taking his talents to Turkey.
Sadly, very little, Anglically speaking, is easily available, but BiE did find this gem appearing there. BiE hereby dares you to: 1) Read the following bio straight through without skipping to the last line, which is awesome and 2) not laughing at the last line. Behold Allen Ezail Iverson’s new nickname … after the break.
P.S. For a double dose of Euroawesomeness, check out the first line of Iverson’s Wikipedia entry.
(BJK.com.tr) — Born on June 7th 1975, Iverson is 17th on the NBA’s career scoring list with 24,368 points over a 14-year career with Philadelphia, Denver, Detroit and Memphis. The five-time All-Star won the MVP in 2001 when he led the Sixers to the finals.
Iverson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft and spent his first 10 seasons in Philadelphia. He was a four-time scoring champion, averaged 26.7 points but never won a championship.
He played three games for Memphis last season before returning for a second stint with Philadelphia. He averaged 13.9 points for the Sixers in 25 games. He took a leave of absence in March to deal with some family matters. His knick name is “Mr. Answer.”
