Nigerian national team centers Ike Diogu and Akin Akingbala (did not play at the Olympics, but played in the Euroleague last year)…….
were both offered to Greek league club Panathinaikos by their agents.
Panathinaikos denied signing either of them citing, “they are not up the standards of our club”.

Arkadios12 years ago
Panathinaikos only signs players for their rotation that can help them win Euroleague championships.
Diogu plays ZERO defense. Absolutely ZERO defense. A big Euroleague club like Panathinaikos would never give him a big contract.
Gabe just once again has proven what a fucking PIECE OF SHIT he is.

Hey Flat Earthers, explain this. On September 27, 2011, Kobe Bryant had dinner with Spanoulis in Greece. This was part of a Nike promotion thing. kobe was quoted in Spanoulis favor, “Honestly, I think he should still be in the NBA.” To which V-Span replied, ” Who doesn’t want to be in the NBA? THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD ARE THERE. The circumstances I had were not in my favor, and I am also happy to be back in Greece.”
Looks like Billy is not a Flat Earther, and is a reasonable guy, after all. That leaves just you guys as retarded schizos. From now on, whenever you mention your Euroleague delusional propaganda, I will remind you of Spanoulis quote.
If you guys want the source, go to Google, and type in, “Kobe has dinner with Spanoulis”. They even have picture Kobe and V-Span hugging.

This proves that you and Gabe are “flat earthers”. Because you keep saying that there is no way in hell that Spanoulis could play in the NBA and that he was totally dominated by Kobe. Yet, Kobe, who has actually played against him – says he should be in the NBA.
There is also a video on YouTube of Kobe saying Spanoulis is a “great, great player”.
So basically, all you did was confirm that you Gabe and morons that don’t know a thing about basketball.
I saw Gabe post that Papaloukas was such a great player and Spanoulis was such a scrub…….
I watched both players for years playing in Euroleague and EuroBasket (I am from Germany). Papaloukas was a great player but he can’t touch Spanoulis. Not even freaking close.
The ONLY player in Europe from the last 10-12 years that can be put in Spanoulis’ class is Bodiroga. That’s it.
Jasikevicius and Navarro are too bad at defense to be in the same class overall as Spanoulis.
Papaloukas was too horrible of a shooter to be in the same class overall as Spanoulis.
Diamantidis has always been too lacking as a scorer to be in the same class overall as Spanoulis.
Spanoulis is one THE 2 BEST players in Europe of the last 10-12 years, along with Bodiroga.
I’m sorry, but Papaloukas better than Spanoulis?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
NO
Papaloukas wasn’t even as good as Greek player Diamantidis, let alone Spanoulis.

Gabe and mike were wrong YET AGAIN. FIBA denied the request of Mark Cuban and David Stern to make the Olympics under-23, and also denied their request to place the FIBA World Cup under NBA control and ownership.
Also, the FIBA World Cup will officially become FIBA’s world basketball flagship and showcase, with the Olympics officially taking second in importance.
Finally, the court size and 3 point distance will be the same as in the NBA – evidently they felt sorry for Stern and Cuban, so they threw those dogs a little bone.

Are there any other Americans besides me who like FIBA and NBA ball? I for one am glad FIBA will not bow down to bully Stern and his henchman. I really enjoy the FIBA World Championships, even more than the Olympics. And I have been watching them since before NBA players were allowed to enter.
I lover NBA ball as well, especially my Celtics. It’snice to have some competing leagues and enjoy the little differences in both.
As for Spanoulis, he is definetly NBA material if he was on the right team. I would love him in a guard rotation for the Celtics

No Vincent. Obviously almost all American basketball fans only worship the NBA/USA Basketball and hate Euroleague and FIBA with a passion.
Actually, the hate towards Euroleague, FIBA that is displayed here on a daily basis by Americans is truly appalling and despicable.
This site is just full of a bunch of xenophobic stereotypical ugly Americans (Gabe, mike, Phileus, etc.).

Greek media says Panathinaikos is close to finalize a deal with Chinese national team shooting guard Guo Ailun.
The total pay package (base salary and bonuses) is equal to about $800,000 US dollars gross (before taxes)…………….
This is really something. Guo is only 18 years old!
This is the first Chinese player to sign with a Euroleague team!
For Panathinaikos to spend $800,000 a year on an 18 year Chinese player – they must be expecting some HUGE TV revenues from China.
Also, there are rumors now starting that Olympiacos might also sign a Chinese national team player (a small forward), in order to ensure that the top Greek clubs get huge TV deals with China.
Also, it is said that the Greek League is looking to workout a deal with the Chinese teams so that they can send their best players their to be developed, in exchange for large TV deals in China, and the Greek clubs’ Greek league, Euroleague/Eurocup games being broadcast in China!
LMFAO at the Greek League stealing the Chinese basketball TV market.

LMFAO that the Greek League has resorted to signing horrible players for marketing purposes. As we saw from the Olympics the Chinese national team is weak, weaker even than Tunisia and Nigeria. And their best player, Yi, can’t even make the NBA as a bench players and has been regulated to the d-league. If that is China’s best player you can just imagine how bad the other players must be. But this might be a smart marketing move. Remember the top players in the Greek League were eliminated by Nigeria so they can’t advertise themselves as having top talent so they might as well sign Chinese players to help their viewership.

Guo would be the THIRD string shooting guard of Panathinaikos if he signed. He would be the 15th man of the roster.
Besides that, he is projected to be an NBA draft pick, so evidently NBA teams are also “desperate”.
Seriously, trolling about the fucking 15th man of a team?
You are a total joke man. If I was to base the NBA off it’s 15th men, it would be one of the worst scrub leagues imaginable.

Yeah isn’t that amazing. In only six years Greece went from being a basketball power that actually beat the USA to an international joke team that got it’s ass kicked by Nigeria, the same Nigeria that lost to the US by 83 points! But when your best player is Spanoulis…then your best players is Spanoulis. lol
For the sake of good basketball I hope Greece has some up and coming youngsters because with Spanouis as their best player Greece is going to be nothing more than a joke team on the international level, like the China’s and Tunisia’s of the world.

Gabe, it’s amazing how these delusional Euros keep bringing up ancient history with Greece’s 2006 semi final win over the US. If I did that as a fan of the Sixers in the NBA, I would keep mentioning the Sixers last NBA Title beating the Lakers, and completely ignore all the Titles the Lakers have won since 1983, I would be laughed out of an argument by any decent NBA fan. Hey Euronuts , we have news for you: USA Gold 2008 Olympics, 2010 Worlds, and 2012 Olympics. Greece=0. Score that!
Qiang, we never said Billy Spanoulis couldn’t play in the NBA because he already did. With Houston, and he sucked. That’s the only piece of hard evidence we have. But I’ll make a deal with you, I’ll admit Spanoulis can be a rotation guard in the NBA, and even possibly a good PG, if you will follow your idol and say it: THE NBA IS THE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD. WHO DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY THERE? Deal? Apparently, even Billy would like to play there by his, own admission. This is backed up by the fact that he took less money with Houston when he signed there than what was offered to him in Europe.
Ark, FIBA is absolutely considering the NBA’s 23 and under proposal, but they say 2020 is the earliest time for implementation. You seem to think it is a defeat for Stern that FIBA is highlighting the World Cup as the more important tournament. Right? Well, even though the Olympics is valued more by more important players , Stern agrees with FIBA that the World Cup should be more important, and it is the goal of the 23 and under Olympic policy to lessen the Olympics, and improve the World Cup. Anything about this that your thick head can’t comprehend? Simple enough for you? Jeez!
This is why many top American stars have voiced displeasure with Stern for trying to lessen the Olympic experience from Kobe to Lebron. The NBA will not be “requesting” FIBA for control of the World Cup, but FIBA may be persuaded into a joint venture because of the NBA’s enormous influence today. After all, billy said it best, “THE BEST PLAYERS PLAY IN THE NBA.” So how can you have a legitimate high level international tournament without the “best players”? Huh?

Spanoulis is worse than at least 95% of the players in the NBA.
Spanoulis < DagunduroFACT
Spanoulis will be forever remembered for his epic failure in the NBA and his being the best player on a Greek Team that was eliminated from being in the Olympics by Nigeria, the same Nigerian team that lost to the US by 83 points!
How pathetic.

Spanoulis is not better than most NBA players, seeing as he was at one point an NBA player, and he was one of the worst players in the league.
Here is his NBA stat line….
2.7 points and 0.9 assists in 8.8 minutes per game, on 31.9% field goal shooting (17.2% from behind the 3-point line)Here is what Van Gundy said about it, according to Wikipedia’s article on Spanoulis:
“(Spanoulis) says, ‘I was [Tracy] McGrady back home.’ Great. McGrady is McGrady here,” .. “I feel badly for him. He feels he was misled. Frankly, he’s been his own worst enemy in many ways. Some of it is excuses. His turnovers have been high; his fouls have been high; his shooting percentage has been low. I would rather anybody start out with self-evaluation — what can I do better? — versus lash out and blame. Because I’m not playing him now doesn’t mean he won’t play in the future or we don’t feel he could be a good player. I think he’s allowed his disappointment to go to discouragement, which has, at times, stunted his improvement. We’ll see. We’ll see.”

Maybe, just maybe, every NBA player is better than Spanoulis?
He is not a very good player, and will not be in the basketball hall of fame, because he has never succeeded at the highest level…
He is like a great college player who didn’t play well in the NBA.
Kind of like Christian Laittner..
