ESPN goes Europe

Some European bloggers or sports fans have been complaining for years, that people in the US have one big advantage: They grow up with the NBA, NCAA, NFL, MLB and NHL 24/7 on their TV. They say that this gives them the heads up. Even if you do agree with that (I don’t) then ESPN has a solution for you now. As the German TV portal satundkabel.de reports today, ESPN will start ESPN360.com as a IPTV platform – LIVE but not for free. This mean you will be able to follow the NCAA and NBA, as well as some shows like PTI (Pardon The Interruption) and Around The Horn.

A 24-hour access will be three Euros but you will not be able to save it on your hard drive.

In case you still don’t want to stay up until 3AM because of the time difference, ESPN will store the games for 24 hours so you can access them the next day at a “normal” time.

What does this mean for Europe? Well, if you want to follow one of the 150 European basketball College players – here is your chance!

I already get NASN so I don’t see the appeal of that package, at least not at that price. Especially since NBA basketball doesn’t seem to be included.

finally…
we don’t have beer in our stadiums but we do have espn here in Israel.
they broadcast 2 nba games every week, new adition of nba-action, even one Euroleague game (delayed, on friday). many NCAA games as well.
of course other sports and programs as well. sportscenter, PTI, NFL, some football (from europe and latin america) and some crappy fishing and other wired competitions.

you can always save streaming content in your hard drive, whether they make it easy for you (thus giving a download link) or they make it hard (hence you gotta do the work)..

Every sort of data, if it is displayed on your screen it means it has one way or another reached your pc, stored in your RAM etc..

The simplest way is perhaps to search for an application that records any part of the screen you want (I know such programs exist, I ‘ve used one in the past – you hit record whenever you want to record something which is being shown).. Otherwise, you can search and find where it is temporarily stored by your browser (I guess something like this would work probably, havent done it myself).

I’m from Indiana and I think it would be pretty cool if the stations here in the states would broadcast more international games. NBA tv shows..”FIBA World Basketball” and occassionally will broadcast a game, but I would love to see more of that. I would rather watch an interenational game over 2 average nba teams playing.

I got a slingbox, so if it wasnt for the 7 hour time difference I would be watching 3 hours of Espn a day. The question is whether its 3 euros per month, or per day?

I live in Canada and got an euro dish because sports suck here.
The three sports networks RDS, TSN, SPORTSNET show poker as a staple there 7 night a week. Hockey, baseball, american football and car racing is basically all youll get here but most of it is filler.
Basketball is doled out by the mL, even less soccer, no volleyball, handball, waterpolo or rugby.

Sure, I dont understand all euro languages but there is some sporting at all times and I even indulge in a few new ones (like judo and sumo wrestling from Tokyo; its like US football, two fat obese men hitting bellies for 5 seconds at a time).

I catch tons of important world sporting events, catch some local games at friends or my corner bar and if I really want to see something, there is always a bit torrent of a game I might have missed.

I have no idea what advantage the magazine talks about but I am stunned at how many different leagues there are in europe and in sports I never though had pro leagues.
MLB and NFL are selling points for most people and everyone I know in europe catches the NBA games. Most dont pay for it so this isnt exactly earth shatterring news.

As for the NHL, let’s not talk about it ok. No one in the US knows where the games are shown, something called Versus where so little watch it that if they ran a blank screen instead you probably would have as many viewers.
