Who shots the most points, grabs the most rebounds or dishes out the most assists? Ok that might be interesting and you may also want to know who was the best investment in terms of efficiency. But I have put together some more stats that may interest you.
In fact, I checked how many teams are participating per country. In the EFC data, you have to register your homecountry and in the rankings you can look a t a ranking per country with the number of participating teams. And here is the Top 10.
- Spain 12581 Teams
- Lithuania 10813
- Greece 5600
- France 2655
- Turkey 2575
- Serbia & Montenegro* 2388
- Israel 2385
- Italy 1840
- Slovenia 1408
- Poland 1190
So no surprises at the top in my opinion with Spain and Lithuania, probably the two countries with the most basketball fans. The fourth place of France is a little surprise for me as well as the nice 7th place for Israel. The negative surprise may be Germany who is only 12th with 465 teams. The worst Euroleague country is however Croatia with only 397 teams. Another nice surprise is Ireland with its 23th place ahead of basketball countries like the Czech Republic. but this good result is probably the influence of the big number of Lithuanians and Polish people that immigrated to the Green Island.
I also made a calculation of the number of teams in relation with the inhabitants of the country in order to have a more equal result. And here the result is the following.
- Lithuania 3.004 teams per 1000 inhabitants
- Slovenia 0.704
- Greece 0.523
- Israel 0.331
- Spain 0.315
- Serbia & Montenegro* 0.223
- Cyprus 0.168
- Estonia 0.148
- Bosnia & Herzegovina 0.090
- Croatia 0.088
Then the result looks already way different for some countries. You see the entrance of more former Yugoslavian republics in the Top 10 as well as a surprising 8th place for Estonia. Lithuania is of course at the top with a huge advance. Concerning the different Euroleague countries, Germany (0.006) and Russia (0.004) are the worst with a 27th place for Germany and a 31st place for Russia. I also want to mention a nice 11th place for Luxembourg (0.055) in this ranking in relation to its population.
It is also interesting to mention the number of teams in two of the target markets of the ULEB with their different actions like the NBA Europe Live and the Euroleague China Challenge. So United States has 140 teams and China 0.
*Serbia & Montenegro is considered as one country in the Euroleague Fantasy Challenge settings.
