Here is the recap of the Live Blog with David Hein from Heinnews and Tobias from the JAKO Arena in Bamberg, Germany.
8:16 Greetings ladies and gentlemen from Bamberg, where Brose Baskets Bamberg looks for victory number two and keep alive their slim chances of advancing to the Top 16. Panathinaikos meanwhile is coming off a tough 18-point loss at Roma.
8:20 The Jako Arena is slowly filling with about 25 minutes until tip-off. Bamberg will have to play stellar defense if they want a chance against the reigning Euroleague champions.
8:23 Fans of Tim Ohlbrecht have some good and bad news tonight. Good news is that he has apparently re-done his contract to stay at Bamberg. Bad news is that he’s in street clothes for tonight’s game.
8:25 Regardless, Bamberg management have said they will bring in a new center sometime over the winter break, which starts after tonight’s game.
8:29 [Comment From Christophe]
Any ideas about Ohlbrecht’s injury?
8:29 Yeah, aparently a shoulder injury. doesn’t appear to be too serious.
8:35 [Comment From Matze]
Saras is the best player in the world!!
8:35 Well, he’s certainly one of them. Dont think many Lithuanians would argue with that.
8:38 [Comment From Matze]
Who is blogging today?
8:38 David Hein of heinnews and tobias seitz should be coming along before too long
8:42 TS: Hello everybody – and Hello to David – I am sure a lot of people would want to be you today and follow the game LIVE
8:42 [Comment From Matze]
Ok, what do you think? Has Bamberg any chances today?
8:43 [Comment From fasoulaki]
Are ther many PAO fans in the Jako Arena tonight?
8:43 [Comment From p-san]
funktioniert bei euch bbl.tv auf ie10?
8:43 DH: Hey tobias. good to have you on board.
8:44 DH: bamberg’s chances… well, it’s a must win for them without a doubt though i guess they have nothing to lose. but panathinaikos have a horrible loss in roma to make good on. so this game has to be in the 60s for Bamberg to have a serious chance
8:45 DH: probably about 300 Pana fans here
8:45 [Comment From Hans-Dieter]
Das gibt doch wieder eine schΓΆne Abreibung fΓΌr Bamberg gegen PAO! Gute Nacht, deutscher Basketball!
8:45 DH: Was telling somebody before the game, it’ll either be a 25 pt blowout or come down to the last shot. let’s hope the latter.
8:46
TS: I’ll take my guess – Bamberg will win – I know – you guys think I am crazy
8:46 DH: not crazy. chances are there
8:47 DH: A greene three early would have helped a lot
8:47 [Comment From Matze]
For all who want can’t watch it live but want to hear it, radio bamberg has a netradio and reports live , it’s a nice addition to this blog π
8:47 [Comment From p-san]
well, if ense keeps his 3-pointer-stats: 100%, as euroleague.net says.
8:48 DH: two quick fouls on suput
8:49 DH: that was close. Greene flicks it up at the shot clock buzzer for the first score
8:50
I wonder if Bauermann gave everybody a permisson to shoot and score tonight – they do need some points against Panathinaikos and also come up with some good defense and it looks like they do that right now
8:52 Fenn equalises 4-4 after Panathinaikos pulled ahead
8:53 Bamberg offense moving the ball well. But Greene missed an open trey
8:53 DH: Okualaja now has two fouls as well
8:54 TS: Isn’t coach Obradovic showing no respect for Bamberg’s starting five? He has Batiste, Spanoulis and Diamantidis on the bench
8:54 DH: Okulaja takes a rushed three. That can’t make Bauermann happy
8:56 DH: Bamberg still can’t do much though
8:57
TS: So after Panathinaikos’ defeat in Rome – I was expecting more from Panathinaikos in the beginning – by the way can we see you on TV David? π Where are you? π
8:58 TS: Diamantidis is kind of messing up the stats line here – everyboidy is shooting 100% so far on both teams – he somehow misses 3 of 4 free throws
9:00 DH: Panathinaikos not helping themselves with their nightmares from the free throw line
9:01 DH: Spanoulis knocks down a three-ball and Pana are ahead 8-15, leaving Bauermann no chance but to call a timeout
9:02 DH: 4-of-9 from the foul stripe for the Greeks
9:02 TS: David – to me on TV it looks like it’s not a fast paced game right?
9:03 DH: Dave… just kidding. not exactly fast, but not as slowed down as Bamberg would like
9:05
TS: Anybody listening to Euroleague TV? The commentator tells us a bout a player calles Spanolouissis – never heard of him π
9:05 DH: So with less than 30 seconds left in the first quarter, Garrett missed an open three. that would have helped and Batiste answers with a lay-up on the other end for a 17-8 lead
9:06 TS: 8 points in the first quarter is not enough to compete with a team like Panathinaikos – It looks like Bamberg didn’t score for about 30 minutes to me π
9:07 TS: Looking at the stats sheet you can see why the didn’t score more – 0/7 from three point land for Brose
9:07 DH: yeah, to say they are struggling would to put it mildly
9:08 TS: So Dave – where are you I want to see you π
9:09 DH: a three-ball by Spanoulis and then a technical on Bauermann. Brose needs to find their cool pretty quick
9:09 DH: i’m behind Bamberg’s basket wearing an orange sweatshirt
9:11 DH: Bamberg finally score again. Garrett three-ball. that stopped a 13-0 run for PAO
9:14 TS: Just a little update on the Eruoleague game day: Olympiakos is up 78-59 against Union Olimpija, Siena leads by 10 at half time, Zalgiris leads by 9 against Prokom with 8 minutes to play, Armani Jeans and Efes Pilsen ist tied at half time and Chorale Roanne is up by 9 against Partizan Igokea
9:14 DH: Bamberg seem confused on offense. Okulaja sees that Ensminger is not open in the post and decides to chuck up a three-ball and misses. And Athens scores a lay-up on the other end – 11-24.
9:14 DH: THanks for that update, tobias.
9:15 TS: really don’t want to see Bamberg with 20 points at half time – sombody tells them to make some shots?
9:16 DH: Bamberg crowd trying to will their club back into the game and Greene’s three-ball is Bamberg’s third striaght possession with a score and it’s 18-24
9:18 TS: If you follow the graphic stats from Euroleague.net you can see some interesting thing – both teams make more shot – much more shots from the right side under the basket than the left side – Well of course – they are mostly right handed but still – don’t u think these guys can do left hand lay ups like right hand layups?
9:19 DH: well there goes bamberg’s momentum – thanks to Jasikivicius. a three-point play and then buries a long-ball and the lead is back up to 30-18
9:19 DH: true. just a couple of long shots from the left side
9:21 TS: SO Dave do you hear anything from Bamberg about a new player like Thomas Gardner
9:21 DH: Okulaja’s FT problems continue – just one-of-3
9:21 DH: No, heard Bamberg will go after a center though
9:25 DH: Ensminger’s foul shots made it 30-21 but Dikoudis knocked down a jumper and the lead was back to 11 points
9:30 DH: Fenn was hit with an unsportsmanlike foul and Dikoudis’ s free throw made it 22-35 but Fenn answered with two foul shots on the other end
9:32 TS: What is going on with Panathinaikos’ free throws? 4 guys shooting under 50%
9:32 TS: Hamann has to make this lay up – even he is fouled those 3 point plays are important for Brose to stay alive!
9:34 DH: A timeout here in Bamberg with 1:13 left – 26-36. Garrett will have two free throws and the German champs need to get two defensive stops and could cut the lead to four or six if they’re lucky. This is a big 1:13 in this game
9:34 TS: oh please – also Garrett has to make this lay up – at least dunk it!
9:34 DH: It’s garrett
9:35 DH: i notice that 12% of you out there think bamberg will pull out the upset
9:36 TS: Which is probably me voting for Brose 10 times – just kidding
9:37 DH: Well, Garrett hit his two but Jasikivicius answered with two foul shots and then Bamberg turned over the ball and Batiste hit a jumper in the lane – 40-28
9:38 TS: Thanks Dave for calling him Batiste – I hear BATISTA all the time on TV π I mean I know Batista from the WWE – but for Panathinaikos? π
9:39 DH: there is a great big man called batista though. cant remember where he’s playing. you know who i’m talking about?
9:39 DH: so halftime – 40-28 for Panathinaikos and the Bamberg fans are booing the officials as they leave the court.
9:39 TS: I just know BATISTA the WWE reining world heay weight champ – Sorry but I am big wrestling fan π
9:40 DH: No, I’m sorry about that one
9:41 DH: so, some stats:
9:41 [Comment From uhg80]
You probably mean Esteban Batista from Maccabi
9:42 DH: that’s him
9:42 [Comment From Christophe]
Halftime in Belgrade: 40-51. Roanne won the first quarter 30-14, then Partizan made something like a 26-11 run, and then Roanne finished the halftime with a 10-0
9:42 DH: Sorry to all about not having the comments come it. they didnt work in the first half.
9:43 DH: 2-of-11 three-pointers for bamberg
9:43 Thanks to Keith from CoveritLive your comments are visible again! Thanks Keith π
9:43 DH: 11-18 FTs for Athens
9:43 DH: THanks Keith!!!!
9:44 [Comment From Keith from CoveritLive]
9:44 DH: Panathinaikos inside – 10-17, Bamberg 6-10. bamberg need to go inside
9:45 DH: Panathinaikos out-rebounding 15-11. Just six bamberg TOs and five for panathinaikos
9:45
TS: little update on Siena – CSKA: Siena is up one point with the 4th quarter to start any minutes
9:45 [Comment From Christophe]
I was already wondering why nobody commented. I thought because all the freaks were at the arena, but that was not the reason, I see
9:45 TS: I think you scared them away Christophe with your Roanne game π
9:46 [Comment From Tournver]
How is tonight’s atmosphere in the arena?
9:46 DH: Garrett leading scorer with 9 points, Fenn six points, Greene five
9:46 [Comment From Keith from CoveritLive]
lol…brackets wrecked my comment…later guys…sorry about the glitch…never had that one before…
9:46 DH: Jasikivicius 10 points, 7 for batiste and 6 for spanoulis
9:47
TS: So Dave tell us about the atmosphere in the JAKO arena? Is gate13 their? π
9:47 DH: Atmosphere is pretty good. dreaming of an upset. don’t like the way the refs are calling the game
9:47 [Private]
C – bei siena und moskau sind 2 commentatoren nun π
9:48 [Private] achja und Ibi von undrcrwn hat nun kontakt zu marcus goree π vielleicht geht da was mit einem fotoblog π
9:48 DH: cant hear much ffrom the greek fans, which is good. and now the crowd is whistling its displeasure about the refs again as they re-enter the gym
9:51 DH: it’s good to see the young german basketball fans excited about seeing guys like jasikivicius and diamantidis – taking pictures and what not at the break. good for german ball
9:52 [Private] TS: It’s nice to see that the Euroleague finally gets much more respect and not only the NBA is the place to be – even for fans!
9:52 DH: so, we’re about to tip off again. bamberg need to knock down some of their three-balls and get back into the game
9:52 TS: It’s nice to see that the Euroleague finally gets much more respect and not only the NBA is the place to be – even for fans!
9:53 DH: Good start. Okulaja hits a triple
9:54 [Comment From Christophe]
some special calls in Belgrade, Pekovic already two offensive fouls on positioning. 4 carrying calls for Roanne
9:55 TS: Just one player is in double digits regarding the ranking points: JASIKEVICIUS!
9:55 DH: yep. and he scored all 10 points in the seconcd quarter
9:57 DH: Winston answers with a long ball of his own on the other end and Hamann just got his with his third foul – just like Okulaja and Ensminger
9:57 And now Greene as well
9:57 DH: four bamberg players with three fouls with 7 minutes left in the third
9:58 [Comment From mz]
sorry, what’s the score again?
9:58 DH: 43-31, sorry
9:58 [Comment From mz]
thank you!
10:00 DH: that’s what i’m here for. Suput hits a layup but then takes and misses badly a rushed three-pointer – still 43-33
10:01 DH: Tobias, what else is going on in this group today? and what’s the scores?
10:02 DH: well, ensminger and hamann both have four fouls now – 4:36 left in the third – and bauermann calls a timeout
10:02 [Comment From uhg80]
Bamberg lives and dies by their 3point shooting. Dies, i.e.
10:03 DH: Certainly dying at this point. and by their fouls
10:04 [Comment From Christophe]
End of Q3 in Belgrade: 60-64
10:04 [Comment From mz]
How does Panathinaikos plays? Is he good or is he just ok?
10:06 [Comment From Christophe]
End of Q3 in Belgrade: 60-64
10:06 Panathinaikos is playing as smart and effective as they can against an agressive team. now they’re just adding up the fouls on bamberg. this one looks like it will be a blowout. especially if the reigning champs are facing a lineup of garrett, dickel, pavic, suput and greene
10:06 TS: CSKA Moscow just won by three – thanks with a little help of the referee
10:07 [Comment From uhg80]
Siskauskas made three free throws and blocked Sato’s 3pt attempt to give CSKA a 69-66 victory in Siena
10:08 [Comment From Guest]
What’s the scote in the PAO game?
10:08 TS: 34-45
10:08 DH: So unsportsmanlike foul. ensminger makes one-of-two and garrett’s lay-up made it 37-45
10:09 [Comment From Kerem]
They should be winning by a landslide.. Is Pao not playing seriously?
10:10 We all have to rely on Dave now since Euroleague/tv is not working right now
10:11 [Comment From Kerem]
Efes just beat Milano in Italy in what is said to be a freezing arena literally by the commentator.. KG and Woods played good along with the usual score from Andre Hutson and the little hero Drew Nicholas!
10:11 TS: Thanks Kerem for the update
10:12 [Comment From Christophe]
when I look at the score in Bamberg, this looks like a real offensive firework. but that’s exactly what bamberg wants. If they are within 7-8 points 5 minutes to the end, everything is possible
10:12 TS: I hope at least Dave is still with us? π
10:13 [Comment From NEW]
CSKA just won Montepaschi. Great play by Siskauskas.
10:14 TS: I think it was a horrible call to make from the referee – you never make a deciding call in the last minutes – esp. when it is not an obvious foul – which it wasnt
10:14 TS: there is another German-Greek match going on – so just if Brose looses – here you go:
10:14 [Comment From Matze]
FC Bayern – Thessaloniki 4:0 4 Tore Luca Toni
10:14 [Comment From Christophe]
Dave?
10:15 [Comment From Kerem]
CSKA is the San Antonio Spurs of the Euroleague, no really they are π
10:15 It looks like the last minute of the third quarter in Bamberg with Panathinaikos up 53-40
10:16 DH:
One sec
10:16 TS: Dave will be back in a second – ahh there we go π
10:16 [Comment From Kerem]
29:00 minutes played, Score 41-53
10:16 [Comment From sh]
internet connection loss?
10:16 TS: sh: everything is fine Dave is still with us π
10:16 DH. bamberg trail 53-43 going into the fourth
10:16 [Comment From Matze]
43-53 garret for three
10:17 Darren Fenn and Robert Garrett keep Bamberg’s hopes uo a little bit with raknings of 11 and 12 – while Sarunas still leads that caregory with 17
10:17 DH: Exactly, garrett hit a three at the buzzer to trim the deficit back to 10. okulaja’s inside basket opened the fourth but he missed the free throw. but Bamberg have the ball back down – 53-45
10:18 [Comment From Matze]
@ the man in Jako Arena What about Okujala? Is he getting old or why cant he show his skills in the eintire season?
10:18 DH: Garrett missed a wide-open three from the corner which would have made it a five point game. but bamberg have the ball again
10:18 [Comment From Christophe]
The arena is probabling shaking right now?
10:19 DH: If Garrett had hit that shot then yes
10:19 TS: Euroleague TV is back with Spanoulissis missing a shot π
10:20 DH: winston a dagger three-ointer and now a zizic lay-up for 57-45
10:21 [Comment From Matze]
What did i say before the game? SARAS IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD!
10:22 DH: yeah. and he assisted zizic’s layup. Greene missed a three-pointer and bamberg are slowly realising they cannot come back – still 58-45 with 6:46 left
10:22 TS: Somebody tell Bamberg in this time out that they need to do something now? They can’t let Panathinaikos go away now – but if you look at Obradovic it seems like he has no doubts – I rarly see him sitting down ..
10:23 [Comment From Christophe]
@Matze, luckily, I took him to my Fantasy team this week
10:23 TS: Just in case somebody is interested in Euroleague Basketball – We will present the Roma- Real Madrid game live tomorrow from Roma!
10:24 [Comment From Matze]
I’m the JASIKEVICIUS of the bezirksliga yeah^^
10:24 DH: Okulaja dunks. but obradovic calls a timeout immediately.
10:24 [Comment From uhg80]
Is is just my blurred perception or is Bamberg really taking more 3s than 2s in every EL game?
10:25 DH: bamberg fans are hoping for a real madrid victory tomorrwo
10:25 TS: uhg80 – If they just would make those 3s …
10:25 [Comment From belalik]
partizan – roanne: 81-76, 1 min to go … pekovic at 34 eff points …
10:26 TS: there you go GATE13 is in Bamberg!
10:26 [Comment From Matze]
Bamberg fans are hoping nothing anymore. They’re out
10:27 [Comment From Christophe]
Game over in Belgrade: 82-76. Roanne made some questionnable choices in the last 2 minutes with two very bad turnover passes
10:27 DH: Spanoulis FTs and it’s 60-47 but garrett hits a three. bamberg is not dead yet 60-50 with 4:30
10:28 TS: this was Suput’s 5th – he is out!
10:28 [Comment From Guest]
From what I understand from their games even though I have not watched even a single one, Bamberg is an up-tempo team who shoots and pushes the ball in every occasion, but seem to forget they’re trying to win the game. Needless to say, they need to execute better? Am I right?
10:28 DH: Bamberg is a slow-tempo team. defense first
10:28 [Comment From uhg80]
Pekovic is really working his way into the first round of the draft. I hope he stays in Europe though
10:29 [Comment From Christophe]
@Guest, its the exact opposite. they play every possession to the 24 and then have to take Ave Maria shots from behind the arc
10:29 [Comment From Kerem]
Then how come they always end up shooting 3s? π
10:29 DH: nice descrtiotion christophe
10:30 TS; just like Greene’s air ball from the three point line
10:30 [Comment From bigM]
On defense, Bamberg can compete on a European level. On offense, however, they sometimes even struggle in the Bundesliga. This is Bauermann’s strategy. I think he has the players he needs to play more efficiently and effectively on offense.
10:30 DH: Sani Becirovic hits his first basket of the game a three-ball after Spanoulis broke down the bamberg guards
10:31 TS: thanks Sani – at least some Euroleague fantasy points for me …. good night π
10:31 [Comment From Kerem]
LMAO, then their coach needs to draw up better sets and bring out the specialties of his players alive on the court make them rely on whatever sort of talent they have on that team..
10:31 [Comment From NEW]
2 Kerem: Totally agree with your comment —> “CSKA is the San Antonio Spurs of the Euroleague, no really they are :D” π
10:32 TS: Dave can you call up Obradovic and let him know that Becirovic should take every shot now? π
10:32 [Comment From Christophe]
@bigM that’s true. The problem is that good coaches adapt to the players they have. Check what Obradovic did with PAO. He was always a coach that was defense defense defense. But with his player material he develop on of the biggest offensive teams in europe.
10:32 [Comment From Kerem]
LOL thanks for agreeing, but really I’m getting tired of hearing CSKA’s name on the winning side..
10:32 DH: Well this one is over.
10:32 DH: 1:20 left
10:33 DH: even after greene’s jumper it’s 67-56
10:33 [Comment From uhg80]
It’s Karten Tadda time now π
10:33 DH: and there he is
10:33 [Comment From Matze]
What about Bamberg’s cheerleader? Are they ugly? π
10:33 [Comment From Christophe]
Spanoulissis. I can not hear that anymore. These commentators on EL.TV really seem to have some basketball knowledge, but why do they struggle with the names that often
10:34 Well, just wanted to say it’s been fun
10:34
TS: This guy did a good job today – he just messed up one name – and at least tried – even if Sarunas last name sounds VERY interesting – it is still no comparision to last weeks’ game in Roma π
10:34 [Comment From bigM]
@Christophe I’m not being apologetic at all. I just think that’s the way Bauermann sees it, I totally agree with you.
10:35 DH: wish all a pleasant holiday season
10:35 [Comment From Christophe]
SARAS basketball god
10:35 [Comment From Kerem]
Wait I get this German coach’s strategy, maybe he has so much rep. on the international plateau, he just tries to avoid getting humiliated by playing hard and all out with a ‘below the average talented team’..
10:35 [Comment From bigM]
A couple of years ago Bauermann said that he will always try to play fast and score within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock. Guess that’s no longer his aim π
10:35 DH: catch you on the other side of 2008
10:35 TS: Thanks to Dave – he did a great job again!
10:35 70-58 for panathinaiakoi
10:36
TS: We will leave this chat open for a little while – you can keep talking
10:36 [Comment From NEW]
2 Kerem: Siskauskas played amazing tonight. Blocked deciding 3-point attempt. Nice! π
10:36 [Comment From Matze]
FC Bayern – Thessaloniki 6:0
10:36 TS: Just to have a tleast ONE victory for Germans over Greeks! π
10:37 TS: 58-72 end of the game
10:37
TS: I guess Dave didn’t ant to watch Sarunas shoot his free throws – and a tip for Brian Wiseman – his name is still Spanoulis π
10:37 [Comment From Christophe]
and here are the other results of the night Olympiacos – Union Olimpija 113-80 Montepaschi Siena – CSKA Moscow 66-69 Prokom Trefl Sopot – Zalgiris 80-85 Armani Jeans Milano – Efes Pilsen 73-76 Partizan Igokea – Chorale Roanne 82-76
10:37 [Comment From Christophe]
Brian Wiseman. was that his name he just said?
10:38 Yes he did π
10:38 TS: again a night with 240 readers of this LIVE blog – thanks a lot and I hope to see you all tomorrow again in ROMA! π
10:38
TS: and sorry for the 14% that thought Bamberg would win – well I also hoped for a surpirse π
10:39 [Comment From Matze]
Thanks to David Hein. Greath thing here
10:39 [Comment From Christophe]
if anybody has some questions about the Partizan Roanne game, feel free to ask
10:39
TS: what does Salyers girlfriend look like? π
10:39 [Comment From uhg80]
Yup, thanks for blogging
10:40 You are all welcome – we are glad we get so many positive responses!
10:40 [Comment From belalik]
no question about the game – just a general thing about the blog, I ‘d like to see some more fantasy league related posts … I think it would draw comments, people seem hooked .. I know I am π
10:40 belalik? Here in the live blog?
10:41 [Comment From Christophe]
@TS I never saw her.
10:41 [Comment From belalik]
no no … I mean in the ballineurope.com … I just mention it here since people are reading
10:42 TS: belalik – thanks for your comments – We will forward it straight to our Euroleague Fantasy man Julien Debove
10:43 [Comment From belalik]
Thanks mate .. and for the live blog too … take it easy
10:43 [Comment From Christophe]
Just a few words about Partizan. Besides the monster stat performance from Pekovic, who howver struggled a bit in the beginning against the more athletic Pape Badiane, the man of the game was IMO Novice Velickovic who not only scored 14 and grabbed 7 rebs but he also made a huge job on Marc Salyers defensively
10:45 Have a good night everybody – we will be back tomorrow – BYE +++
10:45 DH: SO, okulaja says it was tough to play against more than just five players, meaning bamberg were very angry about the referrees
10:46 TS: Oh – Dave is still here there we go – with some insight info from the press conference! cool!
10:46 DH: again. to all still out there. happy holiday
10:46 [Comment From uhg80]
Maybe Adi is referring to the depth of PAO’s bench^^
10:46 [Comment From uhg80]
Maybe Adi is referring to the depth of PAO’s bench^^
10:46 DH: maybe that could be as well
