Jordan Farmar nets Euroleague Player of the Week honors

Locked-out New Jersey Net Jordan Farmar continued his personal drive to history in impressive fashion against Real Madrid on Thursday night. Farmar contributed a huge 35 overall performance index rating based on 27 points on 10-of-12 overall shooting to go with five assists in Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 88-82 win. The official Euroleague writeup on the EL’s top five performers of week three follows, along with a Farmar-filled highlight reel.

(Euroleague) – Jordan Farmar delivered his finest performance to date since joining Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv over the summer, leading the Israeli champs to an 88-82 victory over Real Madrid and earn Week 3 bwin MVP honors.

Farmar, a Euroleague rookie, had big shoes to fill this season when he took the spot in the starting lineup of All-Euroleague point guard Jeremy Pargo, who led the Israeli champs to the EL title game last season. But in a highly-anticipated showdown against the team Maccabi bested in the semifinals at last season’s Final Four in Barcelona, Farmar came through using his speed, shot-making ability and ball-handling skills to post big numbers: He finished with 27 points on 9-of-11 two-point shooting, made his only three-point attempt, and added five assists, four rebounds and eight fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 35, which was best in the Euroleague this week.

Another newcomer, Partizan mt:s guard Acie Law, also produced his best Euroleague game yet in leading his team to its maiden win this season. Law registered 26 points, seven assists, two steals and just one turnover for a 32 index rating – second best in Week 3 – as Partizan topped Belgacom Spirou, 91-81, Thursday at Pionir Arena.

Third on the list of Week 3 stars is a savvy veteran: Rimantas Kaukenas of Montepaschi Siena went off for 24 points on near-perfect shooting as his team routed Galatasaray Medical Park 103-77 on Wednesday. Kaukenas finished with an index rating of 30.

Week 2 bwin MVP Nicolas Batum produced another big night on the road Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to steer SLUC Nancy to victory. Nevertheless, Batum amassed 22 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals as part of his 29 index rating. Rounding out the list of top Week 3 performers is two-time All-Euroleague big man Erazem Lorbek, who had 24 points with just two missed shots plus five rebounds as FC Barcelona Regal trumped Unics Kazan 65-93 in Russia.

    At least some fans are getting something out of the NBA lockout. This confirms how strong the NBA is with NBA role players such as Farmer, Law, Batum and Kirilenko dominating Euroleague.

      lol This guy Michael is an enormous denier. “Nothing more than solid as group?” rotfl Kirilenko has been the first and only player of the month so far for October and the only three players of the week so far have been Kirilenko, Farmer and Batum. So All the 4 Euroleague awards given so far have been given to NBA players (and not all-star nba players just regular nba players). Hard to deny the truth Michael…

    The only NBA player that is standing out in Europe is Kirilenko. This guy must be smoking crack if he thinks Farmar and Batum are standing out at all.

    I find this site truly hilarious at times.

    “Dominating”…………..the only player even remotely near “dominating” is Kirilenko. Even then only against really crappy teams.

    Scalabrine? Playing in such a mediocre league as the Italian League, on a mid sized club like Treviso? With nothing more than mediocre numbers based on the level of his team (even just average Euroleague players would be expected to have better stats than he has on a club like Treviso).

    Either people here do not know what the word “dominating” means, or they are just being douche bags.

    BTW, Von Wafer, Acie Law, and Ty Lawson also “dominated” the NBA. It’s a fact. Simply using the standard of “domination” in Europe and applying it to NBA play. They all clearly dominated the NBA under the same criteria.

We can argue back and forth all day but the FACTS are that official Euroleague people (not some random person on a blog like you) agreed that Farmer, Kirilenko and Batum were the best Euroleague player those weeks and Kirilenko was the best in October. Wafer, Law and Lawson never won any awards in the NBA. And as for Kirilenko dominating against crappy teams, that’s the whole point. He’s dominating Euroleague, not the NBA so he’s going to be playing crappy teams. His team is undefeated and he was player of the month in Euroleague play. If the word dominates upsets you I can phrase as Kirilenko has been the MOST dominate out of any player in Euroleague so far.

        News flash genius, the weekly MVP award is given based solely on the Larry Bird plus minus stat. There is no such thing as “official Euroleague people” voting on it.

      I’m not taking time to decipher all that but Kirilenko and Batum are leading Euroleague in the “Larry Bird” plus minus stat, which basically calculates all stats and is a great way of judging the top players. Batum is leading the league in assists and is second in scoring and Kirilenko is leading the league is rebounds. If either Batum or Kirilenko was top in the NBA in any of those stats I would be amazed, I know they never were in the “Larry Bird” stat because only the elite players can do that.

    10th in ranking

    36th in scoring

    85th in rebounding

    19th in assists

    His stats on a big Euroleague team would be something 11/3/3

    Summers – cut
    Gee – cut
    Brown – cut

    Several others playing average or poorly. I would not be bragging up the NBA player’s performances and stats so far.

    Kirilenko is averaging 13/9 and played against some crappy teams to pad his stats. i honestly fail to see anything impressive at all about what they are doing. From what I have seen, Kirilenko is playing noticeably worse than he normally does in the NBA.

      lol Per minute ranking? I sense the desperation. Batum’s team is 2-2 after he went for 21 points and 9 rebounds in defeating the previous unbeaten Caja Laboral. Kirilenko’s team is now one of only two undefeated teams after having five blocks in defeating the previously undefeated Panathinaikos. Farmer’s team is 3-1 after he went for 18 points and 6 assists in leading his team to first place in their group. All three of them are in the top five Euroleague rankings with Batum second in scoring and assists and Kirilenko first in rebounds. Pretty much domination if you ask me. You guys are praying for the lookout to end soon so these guys can go back to being role players in the NBA instead of dominating Euroleague!!

    These NBA players have left due to the lockout and gone to Euroleague and became pretty much nothing more than scrubs so far in the Euroleague.

    That’s 8 NBA players out of the 23 that in Euroleague that are either barely average players, or are basically so far outright scrubs in Euroleague.

    If I was an NBA only fan like Gabe, the last thing I would be doing is talking about how great NBA players are supposedly doing in the Euroleague. Because a whole bunch of them have been pretty damn awful so far.

    He wants to cherry pick his players and stats and just ignore anything that does not match his rhetoric. But by constantly harping on this nonsense, he causes people to bring up all the NBA players that are playing like crap, something which would not happen if he just kept his trash talking out of this forum.

    Oh, and Devin Brown who missed the last NBA season with an injury, also got cut in Euroleague already, along with Summers and Gee.

      Never even heard if Brown, Summers, Gee, Williams or Dorsey which means if they even played in the NBA they were scrubs as well. And I’m not cherry picking, I’m just pointing out that Kirilenko, Batum and Farmer are the best in Euroleague right now, which they are not in the NBA.

    what is going on here? There’s no question the Euroleague is the 2nd best league in the world. There is no question that NBA ball is the world leader. Even European players say this all the time about the NBA being their ultimate dream, and they freely admit when you play in the NBA, you are playing against the best players in the world! Is there any sane mind that would disagree with that? Wow , I can’t even believe you guys are discussing this!

    NBA = $-350 million every year in “profits”.

The salary of one NBA is equal to almost all of Euroleague. How’s watching games in those high school arenas? Do they have bake sales in the hallways of Euroleague games?

    Ok lets analyse the 2 leagues:

    Players: NBA no contest

    Rules: NBA rules promote isolation play, the game largely deteriorates into a 1on1 or 2on2 game. International rules promote team play that produces more team play on defence and offence.

    Drama: In Euroleague all games are important and usually are very close. In the NBA the first 82 games are scrub games used to promote individual players to sell cereals and t-shirts. The games start to matter in the playoffs and then they become worthy. Do the playoffs redeem the previous 5 wasted months?

    Values: NBA – individual, Int’l (Euroleague) – team. During the season in the NBA the most valued things are the Individual stats and highlight moves. How many triple doubles are there, will Love break the double/double record, will Griffin dunk over 2 or 3 players… Won and lost games are secondary. In Euroleague the most valuable thing are the WINS. I follow Partizan, I do not care who scored how many points, had rebounds, I only care that the team wins! But that is just me.

    Fans: Euroleague no contest

    Summary:
    I like the passion and the drama of Euroleague, focus is on the team and not the individual. All games are great because they decide something. I like the skill and athleticism of the NBA, I like the playoffs, I hate the season games. Some things are just off in the NBA. Reading about NBA to me sometimes feels like reading a business journal. Franchise, marketability, big market, small market are too tied to the game. Euroleague also has some really ridiculous things, wildcard invitations, suspicious top 16 “draws”(I do not know if it is valid to call it a draw since it is almost predetermined) that really break the spirit of the competition.

    So what’s better? It ends up being a question of taste and hence it is pointless to answer. I don’t care, I watch both and enjoy both.
