Here we go for the next round of cigarettes from all around Europe.
- Let’s start with a “Did you know” story. You probably know that Barack Obama is a big basketball fan. But did you know that his wife’s brother played professionally in Belgium, Greece, Italy and France from 1990 to 2001? His name is Craig Robinson and he’s currently head coach at Oregon State (found via I Love Basket).
- Elie Seckbach interviewed Alex Acker, the former Barcelona and Olympiacos player, in his home in Los Angeles.
- Nick Calathes will play next season for Panathinaikos Athens despite being only a sophomore in college this season. Calathes can still be drafted by a NBA team in the upcoming 2009 Draft but his first season as a professional basketball player will be in Greece. A similar case that should become clear over the next few days is the signature of Daniel Hackett in Italy, with rumors putting him on Benetton Treviso.
- The BallinEurope.com Euroleague Transfers Table is back for the upcoming Euroleague season. Of course, not all teams are known yet and the transfer market is still very calm, but we have set it up already and have thus far included players still under contract (via in-the-game.org).
- Spain will organize the 2014 Basketball World Championships.
- Staying in Spain, Unicaja Malaga advanced to the semifinals behind a great effort by Thomas Kelati. Kelati scored 11 points in just four minutes to make the decisive break in the 2nd quarter.
- One of the greatest scorers ever and certainly the best scorer ever to come from France, Hervé Dubuisson, was the subject of a nice two-minute tribute video produced by the French basketball federation.
