On this maiden attempt, yours truly and one-man show David Hein, take a look at the just-completed EuroBasket 2013 qualifying round games – the good, bad and ugly.     For Chuck Davis, who plays for Azerbaijan, is one of the core players of Banvit (that rises up swiftly in European level) and he is, definitely, the most underrated player in Turkey. I am a Banvit fan, and as you say, this year, probably, the last year in Banvit, because he may receive an important contract from bigger clubs in Europe.

    For Turkish flags in Azerbaijan, I can say that we are ethnically and linguistically relative to the Azeris, and they are the most important country for us. Even we define ourselves as “one nation, two states”

    Os Davis please open the discussion.

    We have the head of Fenerbahce who did time in prison for match fixing, openly admitting on TV that both Turkish Euroleague clubs AND the Turkish Basketball Federation, AS IN 2010 FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP bribed refs and do bribe them.

    There was a HUGE debate about that tournament 2 years on this site and how rigged it was and how many teams were robbed by the refs. How Greece – Turkey, Greece – Spain, Turkey – Serbia, USA – Lithuania, USA – Russia games all looked extremely rigged and fixed.

    Some of the typical NBA only fans that always defend the refs were saying how this was all a lie and just “Euro nuts complaining”, or how “teams just are not good enough to win so they bitch about reffing”, and any other excuse they could make up out of thin air to explain away all the bizarre reffing that went on.

    Well, here we have it, the PROOF.

    Fenerbahce Ulker president Aziz Yıldırım was a guest at a football show on Turkish television NTVspor and he made shocking statements about Euroleague referees. Yıldırım said: ” Every referee that comes to Turkey to officiate a Euroleague game goes straight to Grand Bazaar. They buy expensive clothes, gifts and we pay for them. It’s like a tradition for euroleague referees because all other clubs did it in the past. I dare anyone-he’s talking about other Turkish clubs- to claim that they never did it. I can easily prove that each club has done that but it’s not for match fixing. In fact, Turkish Basketball Federation organizes this. They came here, we buy presents and sometimes lose the game. ”

    Aziz Yıldırım was on national television to talk about match fixing scandals in Turkey for the first time after he spent almost a year in prison.

    So now we have Donaghy and the FIBA confirming refs manipulated games in the NBA, and now we have the admission of the Turkish clubs doing it in Euroleague and the Turkish Basketball Federation doing it when the tournament came there (which of course is the 2010 World Basketball Cup)………….

    I don’t ever want to hear any more of these people here saying the refs are not manipulating games. This is more than enough smoke to know it.

    The same exact things were blatantly obvious at the Olympics qualification tournament where the refs clearly robbed Macedonia and Greece of Olympic spots.

    Something very sick is going with the NBA and FIBA and the refs, and now we can get it out once and for all, and the idiots that denied anything was going on (people like Gabe) can shut up.

      This guys was talking about Euroleague only. So yes now there is suspicion that there is corruption in Euroleague. No where was in mentioned anywhere about corruption in FIBA or the World Championship. He only mentioned Euroleague idiot.

    I don’t think anyone can deny that game fixing can happen, but it really happens much less than imagined by conspiracy fixated, Spanoulis- loving, psychos or psycho out there.

    In any sport, when a team losses, inevitably, the die hards yell,” we wuz robbed”. But at the end of the day, a good team overcomes bad refereeing, and even crooked refs to pull through and win. . Enough said.

    The Turkish Basketball Federation was the one that really organized the entire thing, just under the supervision of FIBA. So actually, no they are not wrong. The SAME people that organized the world championship have been accused of bribing refs every time they come to Turkey.

I have seen you make political statements several times in this forum about how only Republicans are naive and unaware of facts and that you are not a republican.

      Hahahaha I love watching you squirm. Everything has been decided on the court. I can’t wait for the NBA season to start. After Team USA with their team of NBA stars just won their third straight global competition (I mean utter dominance) I can now rest assured that I am watching, by far, the best league in the world.

      Where as you go off and watch your Euroleague, when the Euroleague Finals MVP and a 1/3 of the Euroleague champions, were just eliminated from Olympic contention by Nigeria of all team, and have to wonder if Euroleague is still the 2nd best league in the world. After the dreadful showing AGAIN by the Euroleague stars on the world’s stage basketball fans are left to wonder that maybe Euroleague is being surpassed by the Australia league, or the Puerto Rican league or even Chinese league!!!

    It’s finny now that it’s pretty much an open secret that Vassilis Spanoulis will play with the Toronto Raptors next year how this Gabe nut has been bashing this guy so hard with his “can’t play in the NBA” schtick.

    I guess the karma factor finally came into play. How incredibly stupid is this moron Gabe going to look, same with mike after they spent years on this site claiming Spanoulis “is not good enough to play in the NBA”.

    I guess those retarded trolls should have picked on a different Euroleague player to bash. They pretty much totally destroyed themselves now that Spanoulis will be returning to the NBA.

    Hold your horses there, Larry. This hasn’t been confirmed yet. It’s just a rumor at this point. If it is true, it would be great for me. Finally, V-span joins what he calls the league “where the best players in the world play”. We will see what he is truly capable of, playing night in and night out against against the most athletic guards in the world. Can he play good enough defense against them without his big men team mates staying in the lane more than 3 seconds? Is he athletic enough to penetrate and dish off, or to perhaps finish in the rim against the bigger and more athletic big men? We will see.

    Just another extra reason for me to be excited this coming NBA season, what with Andrew Bynum joining my Sixers and all.

    Spanoulis is playing with Olympiacos this year. He’s not coming to the NBA. He’s UNDER CONTRACT with no buyout.

    The Raptors want to sign him for NEXT season, after Calderon leaves.

    BTW, the big men in Euroleague are bigger than NBA big men. Please get your facts right before running your mouth. NBA bigs are smaller than Euroleague bigs on average, so you are falsely claiming that NBA bigs are “bigger”, because they are actually smaller on average.

    Hey Larry, when I say “big”, I don’t necessarily mean pure size. Playing “big” is what I mean. In the NBA, “bigs” play bigger than the “bigs” in Europe. Just look at the recent tournaments. Team USA gets away with playing small lineups precisely because Euro “bigs” don’t play as “big” as the “bigs” in the NBA. Let me tell you, Carmelo Anthony would be eaten up inside defensively if he played the 4 position consistently in the NBA.

    In the NBA, Melo is considered a soft player on defense, with apologies to Gabe. Kevin Durant has not been known to be much of a defensive force either. This is why Ibaka is a key player for OKC. His presence balances out the front line.In international play, Euro “bigs” are not able to exploit these US deficiencies. Spain comes the closest to doing this, but still no cigar.

      He is trying to say in the FIBA tournaments the USA goes small with Anthony, James and Durant playing the 4, something they don’t do in the NBA.
