The news of Euroleague.net on Monday did not look like something special. Now, that I read some rumors on several forums and web sites the news statement makes much more sense to me. This is what Euroleague.net published: Tau Ceramica announced on Monday that four of its players were uninjured in an overnight car accident. The players were Will McDonald, Lucho Fernández, Simas Jasaitis and Pete Mickeal, who had been injured in the team’s last game, against CSKA Moscow last Wednesday, Mickeal had missed three weeks previously due to a muscle tear in his right thigh. After playing 2 minutes against CSKA, he left the court with pain in his left calf muscle. Doctors found another muscle tear was found and prescribed a 10- to 15-day rest period for Mickeal, taking him out of the last Euroleague regular season game and the upcoming Spanish King’s Cup tournament. While awaiting all necessary details about the car accident, the club said it expects to open an investigation and, if appropriate, sanction the players “as heavily as regulations allow”.
Doesn’t it sound weird that the club thinks about “sanction the players as heavily as regulations allow?” For getting in an car accident?
So back to the rumors that are around the net. It is said that the players have been drunk. OK – rumors are made pretty fast and a car accident related to alcohol is always easy to say but it might make sense when the club thinks about sanction the players as heavily a regulations allow right?
We will keep following the story – if they really have been drunk, everybody will know anyway.
