So as the first deadline of the Euroleague Fantasy Challenge has been passed, I can present you a bit my team and explain why I chose this or that player. Just to let you know, I am not an expert at all in this game, and herewith, I call to all the EFC experts out there to give me some help by posting your comments how to improve my team and win our Private league.
On the playmaker side, I have selected Goran Dragic during the weekend. When I was doing my research concerning the Monday cigarettes, I got the info from my friend Matej that Goran Dragic is really doing pretty well for Olimpija Ljubljana. So I checked him on the Player market of the EFC and saw him at only 43 credits. Bargain, I thought and brought him in. My second PG is Carlos Cabezas. I don’t know really why I selected him, I think he was there already as a spot filler before, and forgot to dump him for somebody else. But he is playing for a 10% bonus team and he should do his job. But for 52 credits, he may be a bit too expensive.
On the wing positions, my first choice was Brion Rush (56credits) from Chorale Roanne. I think he can be one of the top scorers of this year’s Euroleague. The coach from Roanne is well known for bringing spectacular Rookies over to Europe and here should be the successor of Dewarick Spencer, last year’s MVP of the French league. Together with him, I have my favorite rebounder Jonas Maciulis (54credits). He should get more minutes this year, and he is always good for 6-7 rebounds. I hope, here is my best guess with the selection of Jon Stefansson from Roma for only 28 credits. The Islandic wing, that was once in the roster of the Dallas Mavericks is getting regular minutes in the Italian league, and I hope he will show also some serious Efficiency Ratings in the Euroleague competition. Finally, being also a bit personal, I took Nicolas Batum (46credits), because he is one of my favorite prospects, and because I see a lot of potential in him. He really needs to play a fantastic season this year, and I hope he will.
Coming to the big guys, this is also where the big Ratings should and will be. So I first went with Vujcic, but I did not select him as I think his value will go down as he will probably have a slow start because of his injury. So I selected Marc Salyers (73credits) from Roanne as my most expensive player. Maybe he will never get the 10% Bonus, but he will fill up the statline with points and rebounds. He is joined by Mirza Teletovic who is getting serious minutes after the release of Kaya Peker and the move of Luis Scola to the NBA. And he costs only 33 credits. The same counts for Tiago Splitter, who is a bargain at 63 credits in my opinion. Finally, I was amazed by the performance of Aleksey Savrasenko during the Eurobasket. However, his good performances may not be reflected always by good stats. I took a bet on him and selected him at 51 credits, which already was a poor choice because his value dropped after the first game against Sopot.
I know that I will probably not go very far with this team in the overall EFC ranking, but at least I hope to be better than my last year’s top team that finished somewhere in the mid-20.000s. I concentrate also on one team this year, and try really do go for trades without considering my personal opinion on players too much and really try to do this job as objective as possible. And at least, I should beat the poor teams called VladimirKaponovic and BallinEuros. I heard, that the managers of these teams are even worse than myself and have no clue at all in their selection process.
